Join Lise Lorentzen for a fun online zoom rosemaling class for advanced beginners and beyond. This class is a continuation of Lise's study style series. This will be a great class for those that are interested in learning more about the Ryflylke (Old Rogaland) style of Rosemaling and creating a lovely wooden ornament for years of enjoyment.

Rosemaling in the United States blossomed under the prolific influence of Per Lysne in the earth to mid 1900's . In the mid 1940's a series of rosemaling folios by Knut Hovden arrived in the states and this began much of the historical study of rosemaling. These "Gammel Rosemaling I Rogaland" (Old Rosemaling in Rogaland) had a heavy focus on Ryfylke which is the foundation of American Rogaland. For this class, I created two designs heavily influenced by my study of these folios. The first side of the ornament will focus on a study from a trunk originally painted in 1815 and the second side focus on a pattern from possibly a bowl painted in 1819. In this class we will look at the "originals" and compare them to our design and also study how detailing creates the shadowing in this style.

Detailing and line work are an integral component of Rosemaling and so many other art styles, but often the thought of taking a detail brush in our hand is terrifying because we don't want to mess anything up. So, whether you are new to Rosemaling/stroke work and art in general, or you have had a brush in hand for years, this is a great class for learning how to make that detail brush work for you and take some of the "terror" and frustration out of the process.

In this class, I will demonstrate the brushstrokes up close, focusing in on how to hold your brush, direction of your bristles for proper flow of the stroke, mediums, brushes, etc.

This is a two day class. The first evening will be spent we will discuss design aspects, brushstroke technique, line work, and work with practice pages. You can also do this on practice boards as well.

We will expand upon the knowledge you already have with the basic strokes and dive into the elements that make up the Hallingdal style. We'll finish with a completed piece that will be a keepsake for years to come.

We'll practice brush control, paint consistency, and the symmetrical C- and S-strokes, teardrops, scrolls, and leaves that make Hallingdal rosemaling so distinctive.

The C and S brushstrokes are the core of all styles of rosemaling and here is a class that is great for beginners and for all levels of rosemalers/painters who wish to develop a strong technical foundation and brush control for their artwork.

There will be general discussions about styles of rosemaling, palettes, acrylic and oil paints as well. This class will focus on developing brush technique with the Flat Brush.

This class is a study of symmetry, line work, and detail that solidifies the technique with this repetitive design. We will practice brush strokes, brush control, paint consistency, and detailing in this fun Hallingdal design. You will finish with a lovely keepsake. This is a two-sided project.

This will be a great class for those that are interested in learning more about creating landscapes with a dive into a wonderful Jane Nyberg inspired Viking scene and Telemark rosemaling. Much of the landscape will be created by Lise's innovative paper towel technique. Lise will also discuss design aspects, brushstroke technique, line work, and much more in this class. We will also be working on antiquing and also on how to paint plate beads.

In this class you will receive a supply list, pattern packet, etc. that will be sent via PDF file email. The supply list will be sent shortly after you sign up for the class and the full pattern packet will be sent a week prior to class. The pattern packet will include the supply list once again, full written instructions, line drawings and color sheets.

The surface for this class is a 16" plate. You may choose an inner bead flat rim plate or double beaded plate, though you may use a surface of your choice or practice boards.
