Lise will demonstrate the brushstrokes up close, focusing in on how to hold your brush, direction of your bristles for proper flow of the stroke, mediums, brushes, etc. Worksheets/practice sheets, supply information, etc. will be provided via pdf files. There will be general discussions about styles of rosemaling, palettes, acrylic and oil paints as well. This class will focus on using the round brush for the strokework.

She frequently teaches for the National Rosemaling Society, so this is a terrific opportunity to be introduced to this form of decorative painting. We will be working on designing central Hallingdal flowers to use for small designs with supporting scrolls and flowers. A great class to help you start your own hallingdal projects. You will also receive some hallingdal basic flower line drawings that we can use as examples as well that may be transferred onto your surface.

If you’ve ever thought about trying rosemaling, here’s a great opportunity to take the brush in hand! Rosemaling is the wonderful folk art of Norway that is based on the flowing scrolls and flowers that are made up of "C" and "S" strokes. This class introduces students to these basic strokes that are the foundation of rosemaling, as well as the detailed line work that completes a rosemaling project. The class will include demonstrations and plenty of hands-on practice. Students will practice strokes and complete a project on board. The class will be taught using acrylic paint. If you’ve painted with oil, this would be a good opportunity to explore acrylics.

Join Lise for a fun exploration of the Os style (Hordeland) of rosemaling with this colorful design. This pattern will be painted on a base-coated Bristol board that will be great for framing and hanging on the wall once the class is complete.
